These drawings came about after I was rereading emails from my friend and former teacher Bill Berkson after he passed away. I was stuck at the time and asked him for advice on how to push my art forward. Took me a decade to take his advice…
“What to do? Look at what you do, have done, trust your curiosity, see what most interests you among all those images and/or forms....and take the plunge with one and only one for some duration––six months to a year––turning that one thing this way and that with all that you do know and more that you don’t. Connect this one thing in mind to every other thing of interest, in memory, dream, reflection that, however randomly, pops out at it. The more general solution here is, Go on assignment, any assignment, and stick to it.”
All works are 6”x9”, ink on paper, 2021.
